This summer, as many sports leagues have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our kids are left without their favorite outdoor activities to enjoy during the next months ahead. Summertime has always been a popular time for softball, baseball, football, and soccer leagues, and so it's no surprise why many kids are feeling lost without practice every day or heading to games and tournaments on the weekends.

There is also the worry of getting out of shape or routine for when the fall season starts. So, this week, we wanted to share tips on how you can help motivate your young athletes throughout the summer!

Best Summer Activities for Sport Fans

  1. Keep a Schedule! Creating strict schedules in the summertime doesn't always pan out, but going for a short run in the morning or doing some push-ups is never a bad idea! Get involved, too! Many times, once your child sees that you have the motivation to train with them, they'll feel inspired to continue!
  2. Start a League of Your Own! You may not be able to pull together a whole team, but if your child plays baseball, get a game of catch going or pitch a few curb balls to them. If they play soccer grab a pair of goalie gloves and play a little defense! Is your child a tennis player? Grab your rackets and head out to the court. You may not be the level of competition they're used to, but by teaching another person, your kid will be inspired to stay invested and in shape!
  3. Mix Things Up! If your family is used to nightly walks or daily jogs, try heading out to a nearby trail for a hike. Tired of cardio? Try some body weight exercises together. There are also plenty of online workouts streaming on social media or even YouTube videos that may be fun to try. Even breaking out an old Richard Simmons workout video might just be the perfect way to break your typical routine while staying healthy and in shape!
  4. Watch TV! Not something you're expecting to see on this list, right? Well, hear us out. One of the best ways to learn is by watching the pros. Watching some old reruns on ESPN or on YouTube of old games or glory moments from their favorite pro-athletes can be another great way to inspire, motivate, and learn from the best!
