It’s no secret we have been getting ready for the holiday season here at GiftWorksPlus. With holiday frames, custom engraved frames, and plenty of unique gifts, we have plenty of fun stuff for everyone on your shopping list. Last week, we mentioned our special Hanukkah themed photo frames with some fun traditions for the holiday. This week, we wanted to focus on some interesting facts on Christmas. Here are some of the most surprising facts we found on the holiday!

  • In the song the Twelve Days of Christmas, the “true love” is actually in reference to God, while the “partridge in a pear tree” is Jesus, and the “two turtledoves” are the Old and New Testament.
  • Christmas is celebrated on December 25th due to Pope Julius I, who declared the date as the official day to honor the birth of Jesus in the year 350 A.D.
  • Despite the tradition dating back to the year 350, Christmas wasn’t recognized as a holiday in the United States until the year 1870.
  • The traditional colors of Christmas are red, green, and gold. The red is said to be representative of the blood of Christ, the green represents rebirth, and gold represents light.
  • Santa Claus actually comes from the story of the Viking god Odin, who rode his flying horse (who had 8 legs) giving out both presents and punishments to children.
  • Washington Irving created the image of Santa in his sleigh in the year 1819. He was also the author responsible for the Headless Horseman!
  • Rudolph was created by the Montgomery Ward department stores in order to get children to purchase their coloring books.
  • During World War I, there was a brief Christmas truce between the British and the Germans. They gave each other gifts in a neutral zone, played football, and put up decorations in their shelters.

There is nothing quite like the Christmas spirit for bringing people together, as the Germans and British have proved. So be sure to visit our website to find some beautiful gift frames in themes like family frames, travel frames, sports frames and more that are sure to make someone’s Christmas.
