Labor Day is September 2ndthis year. How will you be celebrating?
An American holiday, Labor Day is observed every year on the first Monday in September. Though many families enjoy picnics, parades, and celebrations during the time off, Labor Day really has its roots in labor unions.
In the early 1880s, the holiday was first proposed by a machinist who also served as the secretary of the Central Labor Union of New York. However, it did not achieve federal holiday status until more than 10 years later when President Grover Cleveland signed it into law.
