As kids and teens get ready to head back to school, high schoolers prepping for senior year have a lot more to think about than new notebooks and backpacks. Getting senior pictures taken is such a cool experience! These photos are all about showing off your individual personality, style, and interests. At GiftWorksPlus, we know a thing or two about taking great photos. This week we wanted to share some ideas to help you take a senior picture that truly shows who you are!

Don’t go overboard with hair and makeup.

Sure, it can be fun to get all glammed up, but you also want your photo to look like you! If you’re going to get your hair and makeup done, opt for something simple, or maybe just a notch above your everyday look. Every Day Health also recommends bringing makeup with you in case your photographer wants to do a touch up.

Keep wardrobe simple.

Michaelangelo’s Photography recommends wearing clothing free of any big logos or patterns. The website states that the best outfits “allows your face to dominate the portrait.” Feeling lost about what to wear? Think about your favorite outfit to rock when with friends or out at dinner! You want to feel your most confident, without feeling constricted in your poses.

Choose a location special to you.

Studio shots can turn out beautifully, but if you’re looking to make the photo a little more unique, try going to one of your favorite spots in town. If you have a favorite hiking trail, trees always provide a beautiful backdrop. Or if you have fond memories at your family lake house, see if you can do a photo in front of the water. If you’re more of a city dweller, a city skyline, bridge, or even a graffitied wall as a backdrop will give the photo an urban feel, as Betsy’s Photography recommends.

Don’t be afraid of showing your hobbies.

Whether you’re a classical pianist, a thespian, or a varsity basketball player, consider including your interests in your photo. You could do some photos of you at the piano bench, on the stage with a curtain backdrop, or on the court with a basketball. The best photographers will still know how to make you shine while showing your passion for your unique interests.

Above all, you want your senior pictures to show you in your best light, so be sure to chat with your photographer about how you’d like to look!
