Woman reading in bed in a cabin.

For Midwesterners, there is nothing better than spending summer up north at the cabin with friends and family. As we head toward the warmer months, we realize it may have been quite a while since you’ve last visited your home away from home. So, we at GiftWorksPlus wanted to share a few tips to give your cabin a little zhoosh before summer!

  1. Get cleaned up! Before redecorating you should always start with a clean canvas. Need inspiration? Check out our blog from last week on spring cleaning tips. Make sure to scrub the floors and windows, and dust everything you see! On a particularly nice day it’s always a good idea to leave the windows open to air everything out.
  1. Think about space! Cabins and lake houses come in all different sizes. If you’re looking to make your space feel a little bigger, consider adding some large mirrors to the walls, opt for floor to ceiling shelving and storage, and remember when it comes to furniture- less is more!
  1. Try a fresh coat of paint! Nothing spruces up a space like a fresh coat of paint! When it comes to cabin design, you may be tempted for something that feels warm and cozy, but remember for smaller spaces, a lighter color may be preferable.
  2. Consider different themes! Does your cabin sit in a secluded wooded area? Try designing with that in mind. Think cozy and woodsy furniture and even scents for your space. Does your cabin sit on the shore of a beautiful lake? Try some blue water tones for paint and nautical themes for furniture!
  3. Personalize, personalize, personalize! Don’t ever forget that your family cabin should be decorated to reflect your family! Pick out your favorite family photos and some unique frames and start personalizing your cabin with photos of all your favorite people!
