Two young children dressed up as mummies for Halloween.

Who doesn’t love Halloween? Costumes, candy, scary movies, and pumpkin carving---there's a lot of fun memories to be had this time of year. Though 2020 may have thrown us off our game, there are still plenty of of ways to enjoy Halloween with family.

This week we’re going to share a few tricks to help you celebrate Halloween without putting you, your family, or your neighbors at risk. Here’s what you should consider for this October 31st!

Tricks to Stay Safe This Halloween

  1. Let the neighborhood know your house is safe! Put a sign on the door letting everyone know that you’ll be handing out candy with masks and gloves, so parents and kids feel comfortable stopping by.
  2. Make candy bags. Instead of reaching into a bowl and putting the candy in each child’s bag, you could make smaller candy bags and let the kids grab one for themselves from a safe distance.
  3. Keep your distance. If you’re taking the kids trick-or-treating this year, be sure you keep a safe distance from other families who are also out and about. If you see a large group of people at one house, maybe just skip to the next one and come back later. Don’t forget to keep your trick-or-treating group small, too!
  4. Sanitize, sanitize, sanitize! Before you break into your candy bag, make sure you take a few sanitizing wipes to it and wash your hands before digging in!
  5. Wear your mask and gloves. Even if you’re not in costume this Halloween, make sure you’ve got your mask on when you head out with the kids!
  6. Stay in if you’re not comfortable: You can still have a great Halloween without trick-or-treating. You can hide candy throughout the house and have a Halloween-style Easter Egg Hunt, throw a family game night and let winners get first dibs on candy, or even plan a Halloween movie night and make homemade caramel apples and popcorn mixes with your favorite treats!
