There’s nothing like a scoop of ice cream on a hot summer day and it seems like we’re going to have plenty of hot summer days coming up in the Midwest! At GiftWorksPlus, we like to consider ourselves ice cream aficionados, especially when it comes to local shops in our favorite Midwestern cities. In this week’s blog, we thought we would share some “Mom-and-Pop” ice cream shops in Wisconsin and Minnesota that are well worth the drive. Here we go!

Our Favorite Wisconsin and Minnesota Ice Cream Shops

5. Nelson’s Ice Cream, Stillwater, MN. Nelson’s is well-known around the Twin Cities for two things: delicious ice cream flavors and some seriously big portions! If you don’t believe us, check out their Instagram! They offer a wide selection of flavors including Chocolate Chip, Superman, and Cotton Candy.

4. Zesty’s Frozen Custard and Grill, Green Bay, WI. With three different locations, Zesty’s is known and loved around the Green Bay area. They serve unique ice creams every day for their “Flavor of the Day” and trust us when we say you will never be disappointed! You can check out their “flavor forecast” here. They’re also a great place to grab a burger and fries or even a non-dairy smoothie!

3. Windmill Ice Cream Shoppe, Tomahawk, WI. This charming little ice cream shop in Tomahawk is recognizable from far away with its big red windmill. They offer a variety of classic flavors inside a quaint, retro-themed shop. This place is just plain adorable! Plus, it sits on Lake Nokomis so you can catch some beautiful views while enjoying your delicious ice creams!

2. Selma’s Ice Cream, Afton, MN. Another favorite among Twin City dwellers, Selma’s is a small ice cream shop nestled next to the St. Croix river. Some of our favorite flavors include Zanzibar, Rhubarb Crumble (a summer must!), and their award-winning This $&@! Just Got Serious. They also offer unique and oh-so-tasty ice cream pies! Stop by today and try for yourself!

1. Kelley Creamery, Fond du Lac, WI.  For fresh, homemade ice cream in Wisconsin, look no further than Kelley Creamery. This family-owned business sits right on their own dairy farm and is known for the unique flavors such as apple raisin strudel and bleu cheese pear, as well as the impeccable taste of their freshly made ice cream. Would you expect any less from America’s Dairyland?
